This
quiz is designed to help you decide whether to say "yes"
to something or not. It's certainly not the only tool in the world,
nor is it infallible. But it's a place to get started.
As you go
through the quiz, simply choose either "yes" or "no"
for each question.
| 1.
|
Will
this activity, project, or task move me toward my long term
goals? Is it in line with my vision for my life? |
Yes
|
No
|
| 2. |
Will
this activity, project, or task be important to me next year?
How about in five years? Ten? |
Yes
|
No
|
| 3. |
Is this
activity, project, or task something I will enjoy, learn from,
or be positively challenged by? |
Yes
|
No
|
| 4.
|
What
is the most likely outcome of this activity, project, or task?
Is that something I really want? |
Yes
|
No
|
| 5. |
Will
this activity, project, or task cost me more in terms of time,
energy and dollars than I will get out of it? |
Yes
|
No
|
| 6. |
If so,
is there something I can substitute that will cost less but
will have similar results? |
Yes
|
No
|
| 7. |
Can I
delegate this activity, project, or task, or part of it? (Delegate
can also mean "hire it out.") |
Yes
|
No
|
| 8. |
What
is the worst thing that will happen if I don't do this activity,
project, or task? Can I live with that? |
Yes
|
No
|
Scoring: Subtract
the number of "yes" responses from questions 5 through
8 from the number of "yes" responses from questions
1 through 4.
Using the
Results
Simply put,
if the final score is a positive number, then that activity, project
or task is something you might want to say "yes" to.
If the final score is a negative number, then you might want to
consider doing something else. But-and this is a big but-this
quiz is only a guideline. It's a tool. If your gut feeling goes
against that number, go with your gut. If you really want to do
it (or not do it), then go with your feelings.
There are
other considerations as well. Is this something that is truly
important to you, or is it really someone else's agenda? Is it
a leftover priority from another time in your life? For example,
I used to make my bed every morning. Then I realized that my commitment
to bed-making was a legacy from a time when my bedroom was also
the place where, as a child, I worked, played and entertained.
It had nothing to do with the way I use my bedroom now. So instead,
I just close the door, and use those ten minutes to do yoga.
